Personal photography seems to always take a back seat to paying jobs. But eventually, I get around to some of the personal stuff. So, two summers ago (see how far behind I am?!), I was invited by a friend to his family's annual camping trip at Tupper Lake in upstate NY. It was about 15 of us camping on a small island for the weekend. What a great experience. The nephews wanted to take the boat down to their favorite cliff to jump and dive into the lake. I went for the ride and as they headed up to the cliff, I got the idea to stand on a big rock where the boat was docked and photograph them doing their diving. Then I decided to do some 5 frames per second sequences. Only thing was, I didn't have a tripod with me. So, I handheld the camera and hoped that Photoshop could align all the images for me.
Voila! It worked (with a few hours of my help finessing the final product!).
This first photo is a straight jump. On this one, I moved the camera with the diver as he went down. That's why there isn't an image of the complete scene. I liked leaving my last image in the sequence- as he goes underwater with his hands up. The positioning of each image is just as it was shot, and it looks like he is landing on his own head as he enters the water with his hands up!
The next image is an amazing 720º spin! I shot this one with the camera recording the whole scene on each frame.
I have other sequences that I shot. They're just not put together yet because. . . this is a personal project. Haha!
I hope you enjoyed seeing these. And thanks to the guys for jumping right in. Better to shoot it than do it in my opinion. You can go jump in a lake if you want to!
