Some days stay in your memory because something momentous happened in your life. You made a decision which changed the course of your life. You met someone who showed you a kindness you would not soon forget. Love overcame fear and took you on a wonderful journey to being who you are today.
That pretty much describes what happened 40 years ago to Randy and I. After two years of dating, we were united in marriage before God and family and friends in the church where I grew up. We honeymooned in West Virginia and I moved to VA, where we have lived for forty years.
Along the way, God has been so good to us. We worked various jobs and started our photography company. We photographed many weddings in our 25 years as wedding photographers. And many pets and families and other portraits and events along the way. I began a clothing ministry at our church that grew to serving 5,000 people a year all over the world. We made friends in the Young Marrieds class who are still friends in our TeamMates Sunday school class. We have two children and are blessed with two grandchildren.
Recounting all of that may make us sound ‘old’, but we feel alive and lively! We like to walk and hike and try new things. And we always like to travel and photograph people and places. On our anniversary day, we decided to visit the LOVE signs in the Manassas area. After all, Virginia is for lovers! A rest stop on Route 66, the Manassas Airport, a wine tasting shop in Haymarket and finally downtown Manassas. I think we will have to continue this as a tradition!
Randy and I enjoyed a trip to Hawaii ten years ago. So since our Alaska cruise was canceled this year, he sent me flowers from HI. Aren’t they gorgeous?! If you decide you must have some as well, check out https://mauibest.com. Tell them Randy and Susan sent you!
Have you traveled to any of the LOVE signs? Show us your photos. Or take us along to create your own LOVE portraits!
